Our client in the public sector is the IT operator of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (FWB). As a public interest organization, its mission is to design, develop, maintain, and evolve information systems and technological infrastructures serving the administrations and institutions of the FWB.

Mission Overview

The mission focuses on technical support for the implementation of the Microsoft Fabric platform and its components (Data Factory, Data Gen2, Lakehouse, Power BI), with an emphasis on data integration, environment configuration, and infrastructure security.

Connectivity and Infrastructure

  • Configuration of two Data Gateways (Acceptance and Production) for exchanges between on-premise source systems (IBM DB2, IBM UDB, MS SQL Server, Denodo, files) and the Microsoft Fabric/Power BI platform
  • Validation of connectivity and support in resolving technical issues
  • Objective: provide a robust technical foundation to fully leverage Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, while ensuring security, maintainability, and scalability

Technical Configuration and Security

  • Parameterization of roles, connections, and security models on Microsoft Fabric
  • Implementation and administration of Power BI and Fabric security groups
  • Definition of access policies and governance best practices

Setup of Work Environments

  • Creation and configuration of Development, Acceptance, and Production environments for Microsoft Fabric and Power BI
  • Implementation of a release management process: deployment pipeline, version control, change management

Definition and Implementation of ETL Types and Proofs of Concept (POC)

Design and realization of integration flows for different scenarios:

  • CSV → Data Factory → DB2 LUW → Power BI
  • CSV → Data Factory → Azure SQL Database → Power BI
  • CSV → Data Factory → Lakehouse (Parquet files) → Power BI
  • Denodo → Power BI
  • DB2 UDB → Power BI
  • CSV → Data Factory → OneLake → Lakehouse → Power BI
  • XML → Data Factory → OneLake → Lakehouse → Power BI

Including performance testing and documentation of critical points such as file formats, latency, volumes, and execution costs.
