Our client is looking for a Medior Datacom Project Engineer
Service description:
The Datacom team is responsible for defining, operating, extending and replacing the company's communication technologies and networks. Among the technologies are Optical Fibre, IP/MPLS, PDH and SDH, DWDM, SatCom, WIFI, VoIP, etc. Regarding projects for its communication networks, Datacom is mainly involved in two types of projects. On one hand, there are its own roll-out, roll-back, replacement, and migration projects regarding communication technologies. This is more of the “one technology, all locations” principle. On the other hand, there are the projects where the High Voltage Substation are completely overhauled. For these projects, Datacom needs to make sure that the local communication needs are met and that the networks remain stable. These types of projects are more of the “one location, all technologies” kind. Regarding the latter, it’s one of Datacom’s own core responsibilities to deploy and maintain its active communication technologies when and where it’s needed, with minimum operational impact. A proper impact analysis and preparation is therefore crucial.
Responsibilities
As Project Engineer for Grid Solutions and Large Projects (GSO+LP) that require Datacom’s involvement, the project engineering service consists of following responsibilities:
- Goal: organise, coordinate and follow-up all necessary tasks to be executed with different stakeholders, for example Datacom field operations, project leaders and project engineers GSO+LP, telecom designers, contractors, etc.
- Responsibilities:
- Administrative preparation and follow-up of individual projects.
- After the hand-over of a high-level design delivered by a project architect and/or project manager, start the low-level architectural design (as input for Network Architects), and medium-level construction design (as input for Field Ops).
- In each project, any other projects, internal Datacom or Infrastructure related, that might have impact on the (substation) design must be taken into account.
- This implies communication and alignment with multiple stakeholders.
- Alignment of project planning with project leader GSO+LP.
- These tasks require occasional on-site presence.
- Deliverables:
- Documentation of project related information in databases and other tools.
- Preparation of documentation, such as the AS IS and TO BE situation of the network architecture and the network assets, the node composition per site and per project involved.
- Making sure that existing documentation and plans are updated accordingly.
- Creation of Bill of Materials and verification of stock availability.
- Project Reporting.
Requirements:
Required skills:
- Able to speak, read and write fluently Dutch, French and English
- Hold a master’s degree in engineering, or have equivalent technical experience in telecommunications
- Able to assimilate new technical information quickly
- Strong analytical skills
- Project management and reporting skills
- Very strong written and oral communication skills, including cross-departmental communication
- Willing to continuously refine and broaden technical knowledge of WAN and LAN networks
- Able to work methodically and independently yet collaborate extensively with others
- Team-player and willing to share knowledge
- Customer oriented
- Preferably has an all-round theoretical, practical and operational knowledge of WAN and LAN networks and technologies: SDH, PDH, Routing, Switching, Fiber Cables, Copper Cables, Cabling Technologies, …
- Preferably has experience in change management

- Onsite presence: By default, a physical presence on site is required for 2 days per week.
