Our client, a leading player in the Belgian energy sector and part of a European transmission system operator, is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to support the implementation and operationalization of its Group IT architecture model.
You will contribute to the development of a sustainable, reliable, and future-oriented energy infrastructure, working closely with internal teams and external specialists in a complex, multi-entity environment.
Mission Overview
The Enterprise Architect will play a key role in transforming an approved target operating model into an effective architecture practice that delivers measurable business value.
Key responsibilities include:
- Translating the approved operating model into practical ways of working, including implementation roadmaps, priorities, milestones, dependencies, risks, and pilot initiatives.
- Establishing and continuously improving the enterprise architecture governance framework, covering:
- Architecture principles
- Standards and policies
- Reference architectures
- Governance processes
- Architecture Review Board (ARB) decision workflows
- Operationalizing a federated architecture model by defining clear roles, responsibilities, decision rights, handovers, and escalation paths across:
- Enterprise Architects
- Domain Architects
- Technical Architects
- Solution Architects
- Aligning business, product, engineering, security, data, infrastructure, and delivery stakeholders around a shared architectural vision.
- Establishing and facilitating Architecture Review Boards, ensuring structured decision-making and governance.
- Implementing Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), waiver processes, compliance reviews, exception management, and delegated decision-making mechanisms.
- Embedding architecture practices within:
- Portfolio management
- Funding processes
- Demand intake
- Project and product delivery
- Application lifecycle management
- Security and risk management
- Data and integration initiatives
- Technology and vendor selection
- Introducing proportional architecture governance based on business criticality, complexity, risk, and organizational impact.
- Defining and maintaining architecture artifacts, ownership models, review cycles, and lifecycle processes.
- Coaching architecture teams, building architecture communities of practice, and enabling knowledge transfer to internal stakeholders.
- Defining and tracking KPIs related to architecture adoption, governance effectiveness, reuse, compliance, risk reduction, and business value.
- Driving alignment, facilitating decisions, and ensuring agreed actions are successfully implemented.
Candidate Profile
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Enterprise Architecture.
- Proven track record in complex, federated, or multi-entity architecture governance environments.
- Experience facilitating Architecture Review Boards (ARBs) and preparing decision-ready governance packages.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
- Compliance reviews
- Exception and waiver management
- Delegated decision rights
- Architecture service models
- Strong combination of:
- Strategic thinking
- Pragmatic execution
- Results-oriented delivery
- Excellent stakeholder management and facilitation skills across executive leadership, business teams, architects, engineers, and delivery organizations.
- Ability to create alignment and drive consensus around complex decisions and trade-offs.
- Strong knowledge of:
- TOGAF
- ArchiMate
- ITIL
- Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
- Experience delivering IT solutions within Agile environments is considered an asset.
- Experience within the Energy & Utilities sector is a plus.
- Fluent English is mandatory.
- Knowledge of Dutch, French, and/or German is considered an advantage.

Practical Information
- Location: Brussels city center
- Work regime: Full-time
- Onsite presence: 2 days per week on average
- Activities will be divided between locations in Brussels and Berlin.
- Travel expenses related to Germany-based activities will be covered by the client.
