The proper functioning of the energy market is one of the key elements in energy transition. Our client plays a central role in facilitating the market and is responsible, among other things, for numerous ancillary services for operating the grid (e.g. balancing reserves, blackstart, voltage support, grid loss compensation, etc.) and for performing various tasks in the market's security of supply mechanisms (e.g. capacity remuneration mechanism). 

Within the Market Energy Solutions department, the Market Operations team is responsible for the flawless organization of pre-qualification and auctions for the procurement of products (for flexibility, security of supply, etc.), the verification of compliance with the obligations of market participants, operational change management as a result of numerous evolutions (e.g. European collaborations, enabling new types of technologies to participate, etc.), accurate reporting relating to these activities, etc.

Generally, the Implementation Manager plays an important role in the Market Operations team by bringing together different disciplines. The Implementation Manager acquires the necessary detailed and operational knowledge of the products and processes, facilitates the smooth operation and identifies possible improvements. 

Specifically, this mission aims to temporarily reinforce the team implement new processes – by means of changes to IT tools as well as changes to the way of working of the operators – to enhance the control and settlement processes. The goal is to enable the operational team to more quickly determine the outcome of the verification process and to enable a faster financial settlement process so that in the end the time between delivery of a service and the financial settlement of the service is reduced.

Focusing on the larger project to enable a faster verification and settlement project, this mission includes the following tasks:

  • Develop an overall knowledge on the processes and tooling for the overall verification and settlement processes for balancing products within market operations.
  • Develop a deeper expertise in specific subprocesses, such as the link between the verification process and the launch of the invoicing process, the contestation process, the follow-up of the financial flows from a market operations perspective. For this, gaining a good knowledge of the foreseen self-billing way of working will be crucial.
  • Match the operational way of working within Market Operations with the objectives of the faster verification and settlement processes and identify the needs for developing tooling and procedures in an efficient and supportive way.
  • Ensure that the developed solutions match with the overall process and with the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Ensure, facilitate and develop the necessary change management linked to the processes and tools that will change by listening to the needs of the operators, develop trainings, support them throughout the change process, etc. and translate this as well to necessary developments in the tooling. Develop the necessary documentation and procedures.
  • Contribute to the testing of the new toolings and procedures, e.g. by developing test scenarios to validate the functionality and performance of the processes, support the end-to-end testing of the overall process, document the testing process
  • Work closely together with other implementation managers responsible for linked processes or product, with business analysts and IT colleagues, with the program manager responsible for the overall realization of the project and with other concerned stakeholders.
  • In addition to the above responsibilities, this role may encompass tasks linked to Project Management Office (PMO) functions to ensure alignment with organizational project management standards, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Exceptionally, you may actively take on or be responsible for operational tasks yourself, especially when they require your specific expertise developed throughout the project or in the context of the actual change management.

Requirements:

  • You have a Master's degree in economics/business engineering/engineering/science or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of relevant experience, e.g. in implementing complex processes in IT tools as a Product Owner or representing a business department and/or operational change management
  • Great willingness to develop in-depth expertise on the energy sector and market mechanism.
  • Problem solver: you can develop pragmatic solutions to both ad hoc operational problems and devise appropriate longer-term solutions, you know when to act/respond, can (not) delegate the action/question to the right person.
  • Strong communication skills: you are able to communicate with colleagues and experts as well as a broader, less knowledgeable audience, maintaining appropriate focus and level of detail in both written and oral communication.
  • Sixth sense of operational excellence: you have a mindset of working accurately and striving for continuous improvement of people, processes and tools with the ability to work in a changing environment and adapt when necessary.
  • You have the ability to orient yourself to (internal and external) customer needs with a view to developing added value.
  • You can organize yourself autonomously around various tasks and priorities while staying focused on the outcome.
  • You have a very good knowledge of MS Office (especially excel).
  • Knowledge of Python, VBA in Excel and/or PowerBI is a relevant extra.
  • Knowledge on or experience in using SAP is a relevant extra.
  • You have a good dose of team spirit and flexibility.
  • You have good skills languages (Excellent in English, Excellent in French or Dutch (and ideally a good understanding of the other one)
